Working during the week while also caring for a dog can be stressful. In fact, 48% of dog owners have reported that when leaving their pet for work, their pets follow them to the door, looking upset. With this in mind, you want to make sure that while you’re away, your pup is taken care of and not bored sitting at home all day.

Key Takeaway

Two of the best solutions for busy pet owners: enrolling your dog in day care or hiring a dog walker.
Both keep your pup active, but they serve very different needs.

Read on to learn about the different options so you can determine which is right for your working schedule.

Option 1: Dog Walker

Hiring a dog walker can be a good option if you’re not away from home for a long period. If all you need is some minimal interaction for your pup, fresh air, and a potty break, dog walking can address those needs.

If you’re looking for a solution with a budget in mind, dog walking can range from $15 to $30 per thirty minutes. The city, distance, and number of walks will contribute to the overall price, but under the right circumstances this can be a cost-effective solution.

Dog walking may also be fitting for certain dogs over others. Many senior dogs that don’t move a lot during the day may only need a short walk to break up their daily nap time. Dogs who are also known to be anxious in different settings may be more comfortable walking in a neighborhood that they’re familiar with.

However, although a walk breaks up the day, it still doesn’t solve potential issues such as boredom, uneasiness, or separation anxiety.

⚠Keep in Mind
A dog walker provides maintenance care — great for short absences but limited in addressing your dog’s social and emotional needs throughout a full workday.

Option 2: Doggy Day Care

If you’re wanting your pup to receive complete care while you’re away at work, doggy day care will be the best choice. This option will address your dog’s basic needs, such as getting outside for potty time, but will also ensure that your pet receives the attention they need beyond the basics.

Doggy day care offers key advantages for your dog, such as:

✅ Playtime with other dogs – Your furry friend can have fun and make new friends
✅ Constant affection from dog professionals – Staff members love what they do, and your pup will never lack attention
✅ Area to sleep and relax – If your dog needs some alone time, day care offers secluded sleeping areas
✅ Structured mealtime – Day care keeps your dog consistent with their eating schedule and ensures they’re fed
✅ Decrease in boredom – Your dog will remain engaged because they’ll be cared for and interacted with throughout the day

Benefits for You as a Pet Owner

Not only are there plenty of advantages for your dog, but doggy day care also provides many benefits for you while you’re away at work. Having your dog under supervised care can relieve the stress you have about leaving your four-legged friend at home alone.

Many times, owners find that when their dogs are uneasy, they can destroy furniture or get into areas of the house they’re not supposed to. Doggy day care addresses these issues completely. You’ll also feel more at ease knowing that your puppy is being watched by a professional who is certified to handle dogs.

Playtime and Exercise: Keeping Your Pup Active

Socialization is vital for dogs, so having it as a cornerstone of pet day care should be part of any worthwhile boarding facility. At Pet Palace, dogs that stay with us get plenty of opportunities for playtime in safe, controlled environments.

Plus, we supply options for both group and one-on-one play sessions, letting dogs familiarize themselves with dogs of other breeds and sizes, enhancing their sociability. And not to worry – if any scuffles ever break out, our trained staff is on hand to diffuse the situation and keep the pups happy.

Playtime + Exercise + Outdoor Play = A Happy, Well-Balanced Pup

But playtime isn’t the only way your dog will be fulfilled at Pet Palace, because we make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise while they stay with us. Throughout the day, your pup will be taken outside for regular supervised potty breaks and outdoor play sessions, where they can have fun with toys, explore their space, and burn off excess energy!

Rest and Relaxation in Spacious Villas

Once your dog has had a fun-filled play or exercise session, they’ll need some time to recuperate. Decompression time is essential to ensure your dog doesn’t become overstimulated, so we offer premium villas while they stay with us.

These villas:

  • Include oversized accommodations, often double the size provided by other facilities
  • Have full air conditioning and heating systems to keep your pet comfortable no matter the time of year
  • Feature quality bedding materials so your pup can properly snuggle in
  • Allow blankets, pillows, and toys from home to give your dog something comforting with familiar scents
  • Have fresh drinking water and food to help your pet reenergize

Of course, all of our villas are also thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between uses, so when your dog stays with us, they’ll have a spotless space to call their own! Our pet experts also take great care to monitor pets during nap time to ensure they have everything they need before their next play session or bathroom break.

Our team ensures that feeding timelines are closely followed, and we’re also able to feed your pet special food if it’s given to us in premeasured amounts. The same goes for medication distribution, which we can handle if your pet has existing health issues.
2. High staff-to-pet ratio – When your pet stays with us, they won’t have to deal with a minimal team that’s stretched too thin. We have plenty of team members on hand to ensure pets get individual attention and proper oversight.
3. Pet cams and updates – We want pet owners to know their dog is in good hands, so our facility is equipped with pet cams that let them see how their pup is doing. We can also supply phone updates, and at the end of a dog’s stay we provide a detailed report card that lets owners know how their furry friend did!
4. Emergency preparation – No one knows your pet like their own vet, so when your dog stays with us we make sure to get veterinarian info in case an emergency occurs. That way, we can transport your pet to the best location for their care.

Dog-Friendly Apple-Picking Tips https://www.petpalaceresort.com/dog-friendly-apple-picking-tips/ https://www.petpalaceresort.com/dog-friendly-apple-picking-tips/#respond Tue, 23 Sep 2025 16:58:50 +0000 https://www.petpalaceresort.com/?p=3742 Read More]]> Dog-friendly apple-picking tips

Want to venture out to the apple orchard this season and hoping to bring your dog along with you? Check out these tips to keep your pup happy and safe and make it a fun-filled adventure for the both of you!

Are Apples a Dog-Safe Food?

The short answer is yes! Apples are a great tasty treat option for your dog, as they are packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, making them a healthy choice that will support your dog’s overall health and well-being. However, just like with humans, too much fiber can sometimes lead to an upset stomach for dogs, so moderation is key.

Parts of the Apple to Avoid

  • Seeds – These contain traces of cyanide which is harmful to dogs, so make sure to give your pet slices with seeds removed, rather than whole apples
  • Core – The core is a choking hazard and is difficult for dogs to ingest
  • Stem – An apple’s stem can splinter and pose risks of digestive blockage
  • Rotten apples – These may upset the stomach and contain harmful bacteria

Before You Go: Prep for Your Dog-Friendly Apple-Picking Adventure

Confirm Dog-Friendly Orchards

Not all orchards allow pets, so it’s best to check before you go! Some may also have designated dog-friendly areas or specific rules like keeping dogs on short leashes and other restrictions. You should be able to call ahead to ask for specifics or find the information on their website if they have one!

Check the Weather

Weather during this time of year tends to be unpredictable, and a storm could interrupt the fun! Also, be prepared for cooler mornings, warmer afternoons, and the potential for a mud-covered dog if it rained a day or two prior.

Pack the Essentials

Don’t forget the essentials to keep your pup happy while at the orchard, including fresh water, a collapsible bowl, waste bags, and plenty of treats to reward good behavior. Additionally, if your pup gets tired easily, pack a blanket for you both to sit on to take a cozy break between apple picking sessions.

Top Tips for Apple-Picking with Your Dog

1. Keep Your Dog Leashed

It’s important to keep your dog leashed at all times while at the apple orchard, even if your pup is well behaved. You never know how other dogs might react to them, or how your pup will act with a lot of new smells, people, and distractions.

2. Pick Up After Your Pup

It’s important to keep places you and your dog visit clean for everyone to enjoy. Apple orchards are family-friendly spaces with lots of kids and other animals walking around, and leaving any waste behind can ruin the experience for others.

3. Choose Less Crowded Times

If your pup tends to get overwhelmed, maybe try to visit the apple orchard during non-peak hours such as weekday mornings or early afternoons. Fewer people and distractions mean a calmer experience for you and your pup, and you get the added bonus of more space for you both to enjoy together!

4. Watch Out for Fallen Apples

As stated previously, rotten apples can be harmful to your furry friend’s digestive system, and, if eaten whole, can cause a lot more problems. While you’re strolling through the orchard, keep an eye on your dog to make sure they aren’t sneaking any apples without you seeing.

5. Know Your Dog’s Limits

Apple picking can be a long day of walking and exploring, which is a lot of fun, but it’s also important to pay attention to your dog’s energy levels. Don’t hesitate to take breaks, provide water, or head home early if your pet seems too worn out.

Other Fall Foods Your Pup Can Enjoy

Along with apples, there are plenty of other fall foods that your dog can enjoy this season (and all year-round), including:

  • Pumpkin – Aids in digestion (be sure to avoid the sugary pie filling)
  • Sweet potatoes – Packed with fiber and vitamins A and C
  • Green beans – A low-calorie and nutrient-rich snack
  • Turkey – Filled with lots of vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and lean protein
  • Cranberries – A good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber (be sure to give in moderation)
  • Carrots – A crunchy treat that supports dental health
  • Pears – High in fiber and vitamin C (be sure to remove the seeds and core)
  • Blueberries – Provides an antioxidant boost for overall wellness

Fall Fun with Your Dog Doesn’t Have to Stop at the Orchard

Once you’ve checked the apple orchard off the list, there are plenty of other experiences and places you might not have thought of that will make fall extra fun with your dog, including:

  • Pumpkin patches
  • Dog-friendly restaurants
  • Corn mazes
  • Fruit farms
  • Campgrounds
  • Hiking trails
  • Dog parks

Also, check out your city’s social media pages and websites for community-specific events such as dog costume contests, pet-friendly trick-or-treat events, fall festivals, charity dog walks, and more!

Training for Dog Behavior Problems: Key Takeaways

  • Training will help your dog learn the times that barking is appropriate, reducing any unnecessary noise.
  • Providing stimulation for your dog through training helps prevent boredom and any anxiety-driven behaviors.
  • Dog training teaches your dog proper greetings to help eliminate any unpolite interactions with your guests.
  • Structured training helps your dog cope with being left alone to minimize any anxiety-driven behaviors.

Having trouble with your dog’s behavior? It can be stressful at times trying to control your dog from acting out, but there are solutions so you and your furry companion can be happy together! Read on to learn about common dog behavior problems you may see in your pup and how dog training can get your pet back on track.

What Do Dog Behavior Problems Look Like?

When taking a look into different dog behaviors, there are some that can be problematic. Dogs are very expressive animals and can sometimes communicate through disruptive behaviors. It’s necessary to identify these kinds of behavior in your furry friend so you can understand them better. Here is a look at six common dog behavior problems.

Excessive Barking

We know all dogs bark, but it’s a problem when it’s excessive or starts becoming an issue for others. As mentioned above, dogs are communicative animals, so it’s only natural for a dog to bark when they are bored, excited, or anxious. The issue with excessive barking is that your dog probably doesn’t know social cues for when it’s appropriate to bark or not.

For example, if someone walks into your house, your dog may start barking uncontrollably, which isn’t necessary for your pup to do. This behavior is often overlooked as a dog behavior issue, but it’s vital to teach your furry friend that they don’t need to bark in certain situations.

Chewing

Chewing or other destructive behaviors can become an extreme annoyance, especially when your pup is chewing on your brand-new shoes or another important item. This kind of behavior can stem from boredom, excessive energy, anxiety, or curiosity. Chewing can become dangerous if your dog accidentally swallows something it shouldn’t, so it’s key to stop this habit as early as you can.

Jumping on People

When a dog sees someone new, it’s in their nature to jump up on them. While this behavior can be innocent, it can also be dangerous if your dog jumps on a child, an older person, or someone who isn’t comfortable around dogs. Jumping up on people can indicate that your dog is seeking attention and could become a habit if you do not dissuade them from doing so.

Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety is the most common dog behavior problem. You will see a pup is experiencing separation anxiety if they start to misbehave after their owner leaves them. It’s also evident if a dog constantly follows their owner around the house and won’t leave their side. This behavior can be brushed off at times, but it’s important to implement changes so your dog isn’t upset when you leave them.

Begging

It can be hard to ignore those puppy dog eyes when your pet is begging, but giving them food just reinforces the bad behavior. A dog that is constantly begging is often seeking more attention, so it’s better to try to engage with your furry friend in different ways to lessen these behaviors. If your dog is constantly begging and being given food, it can lead to digestive problems and other health issues.

Aggression

Aggression in a dog can manifest as growling, biting, barking, and showing teeth. This behavior can indicate underlying feelings of fear, dominance, pain, and more. Aggression is a dangerous behavior for your dog to display around other dogs and people, and it’s crucial for you to seek help for your dog if they experience this behavioral issue. It’s important to teach your dog that aggression is not an appropriate way to act.

How Dog Training Will Benefit You and Reduce Dog Behavior Issues

Now that you know different dog behavior problems, if you feel that your pup behaves in some of these ways, it might be time for your pet to get some training. Effective training is the main solution to dog behavior issues because a professional can work closely with your furry friend and help them learn how to communicate in appropriate ways. Some key aspects of dog training include:

No matter what your dog needs practice with, training will give your pup the opportunity to work with a professional on these behaviors. Once your dog spends some time in training, you will notice a difference and experience these benefits:

  • A happier dog – Your companion will come back from training mentally and physically stimulated. This will help prevent them from feeling bored and acting out with their previous bad behaviors. Your furry friend will also feel more confident in real-life situations with other people and animals.
  • A stronger bond between you and your dog – Since you won’t have to reprimand your pup for problematic behaviors, you can focus on building a relationship and having fun with them.
  • Safer situations – With your dog properly trained to deal with other people and animals, it will prevent them from getting into dangerous situations. This will keep you more at ease when bringing your dog around others.

As you can see, dog training provides a variety of benefits and has been shown to be not only advantageous for your pup but beneficial for you as well. It’s recommended to begin dog training as early as possible to establish those good habits and prevent dog behavior problems.

13 Reasons Why Playtime Is So Important for Dogs https://www.petpalaceresort.com/13-reasons-why-playtime-is-so-important-for-dogs/ https://www.petpalaceresort.com/13-reasons-why-playtime-is-so-important-for-dogs/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:22:17 +0000 https://www.petpalaceresort.com/?p=3022 Read More]]> dog playtime

Key Takeaways on the Importance of Playtime

  • Boosts physical health – Enhances cardiovascular fitness, builds muscle, supports weight management, and improves coordination and endurance
  • Sharpens mental skills – Promotes problem-solving, improves memory, de-escalates stress, and allows dogs to express their natural instincts
  • Releases excess energy – Prevents behavioral issues that occur when dogs don’t get enough activity

Engaging in playtime with your pup can help improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. However, since all dogs are different, they require different types and amounts of exercise to keep them happy. The amount of play your dog should get depends on its size, breed, age, and overall health, with dogs usually needing between thirty minutes and two hours of exercise each day.

Read on to learn about ways to exercise your pup, signs that indicate they might need more time outdoors, and how playing with them can improve their cognitive and physical well-being.

Categories of Exercise

Getting your dog into an exercise regimen is something that they will grow to enjoy. Start slowly with walks and work your way into longer playtime sessions based on their preferences and ability.

For example, if your dog is young, you might begin with some low-impact exercise for a warm-up and then throw in some strenuous exercise to get their puppy energy out. In contrast, a senior dog might require low-impact exercise with occasional brain exercises.

Since each dog is different, trial and error is a great way to find out what they need. Here are some examples of exercises you can try with your pup:

Low-Impact Exercise

  • Walking
  • Swimming

Moderate Exercise

  • Jogging
  • Hiking on a flat trail
  • Playing in the park

Strenuous Exercise

  • Running
  • Hiking
  • Swimming
  • Playing intense fetch
  • Agility training

Exercises for the Brain

  • Trying a new walking route (with lots of new smells)
  • Training exercises
  • Hanging out with other pups
  • Playing games that involve puzzles
  • Agility training

Remember, all dogs have different preferences and activity levels. Therefore, it is important to observe their response to each of the exercises. Your dog should be happily tired and not exhausted after each play session. If you have any questions on how much exercise your dog should be doing, be sure to ask your vet.

Signs Your Dog Is Not Getting Enough Playtime

When your dog is not getting enough exercise through playtime, you might start seeing some noticeable signs. From weight gain to hyperactivity, there are a variety of indications you can look out for.

Here are some signs that your dog doesn’t get enough playtime:

  • Weight gain – If your dog has been looking a little more plump than usual, it may be an indication that they are overdue for some exercise. Remember to start small and build up their endurance before you get them involved with intense exercise!
  • House destruction – Destructive behavior is an indication that your dog is bored and looking for ways to release their energy. Signs of house destruction include chewing items, scratching at doors or carpeting, raiding trash cans, and other behaviors you don’t want.
  • Excessive vocalness – Pups that feel restless might bark or whine a lot more than usual. While this could be an indication of illness, it could also mean that they need more exercise and are trying to communicate that with you.
  • Stiffness – A sedentary lifestyle in older dogs can lead to muscle loss and painful joints. When this occurs, be sure to consult with your vet to find a way to ease them back into regular exercise patterns that won’t cause further damage.

If your dog is experiencing any of the above, it is time to get them out and about so they can regain their well-being. Plus, we know they will love some outdoor bonding time with their human!

Our 13 Playtime Benefits for Physical, Mental, and Emotional Wellness

Just as humans need exercise for 30 minutes a day to maintain their well-being, so do dogs. Discover the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of giving your pup some playtime.

Physical Benefits

  • Cardiovascular health – Getting your dog’s heart pumping can improve their cardiovascular health. This can prevent health-related issues and help them maintain a healthy circulatory system.
  • Muscle development – Tug-of-war, fetch, and other activities help dogs build their muscles up, which can lead to better posture, mobility, and strength.
  • Weight management – Burning off calories leads to a healthy weight which prevents issues related to obesity.
  • Coordination and balance – Improve your pup’s motor skills and agility by throwing them a ball or making them navigate obstacles.
  • Endurance – When you get your dog to engage in regular activity, you slowly build their endurance over time which allows them to play longer without fatigue.

Mental Benefits

  • Enhanced problem-solving – Playtime is able to promote problem-solving skills by letting dogs navigate obstacles or overcome other challenges.
  • Improved memory – By encouraging your pup to remember sequences, commands, and tricks, you can strengthen their cognitive recall abilities and keep their minds sharp.
  • Stress relief – Mentally stimulating activities can help reduce anxiety and stress in your pup, which promotes relaxation and well-being (for both you and your dog)!
  • Expression of natural instincts – Chasing, fetching, tugging, and exploring are all part of a dog’s natural instincts. Giving them the opportunities to do these activities fulfills their natural instincts and is psychologically and emotionally rewarding.

Emotional Benefits

  • Coping with separation – If you are getting ready to leave for an extended period of time, engaging in playtime beforehand can provide your dog with comfort and reduce a lot of separation anxiety they might face otherwise.
  • Better mood – Getting dogs to release their energy can lead to a better demeanor overall. They will often exhibit jubilance and fewer signs of behavioral issues.
  • An outlet for excess energy – Playtime can release excess energy, promoting a calm demeanor, making things easier both for your pup and you.
  • Emotional support – Spending time with your dog can satisfy their need for engagement and socialization, which reduces feelings of loneliness or isolation. This can also strengthen the bond between you and your furry friend.

Our Post Summarized into 4 Key Points

  1. Certain dog breeds—such as Chihuahuas, Basset Hounds, Greyhounds, and French Bulldogs—are well-suited for busy professionals because they are more independent and require less constant attention, making them ideal for people with demanding work schedules.
  2. To keep dogs comfortable while owners are away, it’s important to create a dog-proofed space, provide entertainment (like puzzle toys or TV), ensure bathroom options, leave curtains open for sunlight, and walk them before leaving.
  3. Busy schedules can impact a dog’s health through reduced exercise, loneliness, irregular feeding, and neglected grooming; solutions include hiring dog walkers, using automatic feeders, and maintaining a consistent routine.
  4. Pet Palace offers doggy day care and other services (training, boarding, grooming) to support working pet owners, providing supervised play, exercise, and flexible scheduling to ensure pets are cared for during long work hours.

Working in the 21st century is busier and harder than ever because balancing work, family, and friends can be extremely challenging. Often, all of these factors can cause overwhelming feelings of stress and anxiety, which is why a lot of people want to bring in a furry friend to combat these negative emotions.

Many people who spend their days in the office working long hours think they can’t get a dog since they aren’t constantly available to give them attention throughout the day. The reality is that there are actually some breeds of dogs that are more independent and self-sufficient than we might expect, and these dogs make great options for the busy professional. Keep reading to see the most popular dog breeds for working individuals!

Our Recommended List of the Best Dog Breeds for Professionals

There are some dog breeds that require more exercise and interaction than others, but if you carefully choose your dog breed beforehand, you will have more peace of mind while being out of the house. Here’s a list of the best dog breeds for working dog owners:

  • Chihuahua
  • Basset hound
  • Maltese
  • Greyhound
  • Whippet
  • Shar pei
  • French bulldog
  • Bullmastiff
  • Boston terrier
  • Irish wolfhound
  • Lhasa apso
  • Miniature schnauzer
  • Dachshund
  • Chow chow
  • Shiba inu

These also tend to be the best dog breeds for busy families as they are less social and require low maintenance, making them more suited to being alone at home for longer periods of time compared to other breeds. But not to worry, they will still celebrate and snuggle up to you when you return from your long day!

Five Tips for Dog Owners

Now that you know about the best dog breeds that can occupy themselves throughout the day, let’s go over some tips to make sure they’re comfortable and happy while you’re away:

  • Create a dog-proofed space – Supply your pup with a place where they feel comfortable that features their bed, toys, food, and water. It can also be beneficial to leave a blanket with your scent.
  • Provide entertainment – Every breed of dog likes different forms of play and entertainment. Leave the TV on or hide food-stuffed puzzle toys to occupy them while they’re home and you’ll have some happy pups.
  • Offer bathroom options – Even the best dog breeds must answer the call of nature, so it’s important to provide bathroom solutions, whether that means adding a doggy door, a pee pad, or some other option.
  • Leave your curtains open – Keeping the blinds or curtains open can help your dog feel less trapped in the home. Typically, dogs enjoy looking out the window and experiencing a bit of sunlight, so facilitating this can be greatly beneficial.
  • Get them moving – It’s advantageous to take your dog on a walk before leaving the home so they can release energy and enjoy some resting time while their owner is away at the office.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Breeds for Working Professionals

How might a busy work schedule impact the health of dogs, and what precautions should be taken?

A busy work week can have various effects on the health of dogs. Some may include:

  • Less exercise time – Reduced exercise and play could lead to weight gain and health problems, so be sure to schedule dedicated times for walks or hire a dog walker to ensure your pup is moving throughout the day.
  • Loneliness – Dogs left alone may experience loneliness, boredom, and anxiety which impacts their mental well-being. Consider doggy day care for your pet so they can be around others.
  • Irregular feeding – The disruption of eating routines may lead to digestive issues. Establish a consistent feeding cycle or use automatic feeders if necessary to prevent these issues.
  • Inadequate grooming – Neglecting grooming for your dog may lead to skin issues, matting or discomfort. Consider professional grooming services and regularly check for skin problems.

Are there specific behavioral training tips for these recommended breeds to help them adapt?

Each dog breed is different, so they will have unique characteristics when it comes to their behavior. Training your dog will help them adapt to times when you aren’t around, creating a smoother transition.

A few tips for training include:

  • Gradual alone time – It’s best to start with gradually leaving your dog alone to help them build confidence in being alone, reducing the amount of separation anxiety they feel.
  • Constant routine – Having a consistent routine of walking, feeding, and playtime will help your pet understand their days and anticipate times when they will be alone, and be accustomed to it.
  • Positive reinforcement – Positive reinforcement can be highly effective, with treats and praise being used to reward good behavior. The kind of reward chosen will depend on the breed of dog, a dog’s health needs, and the preferences of your individual pet.
  • Obedience training – Different breeds of dogs will warrant specific commands. It’s important to invest time into obedience training for commands like sit, stay, and come. The more trained a dog is, the better they will comprehend there are periods where they will need to be independent.
  • Positive association with departure – To make leaving your dog alone a little easier, create a positive experience by giving them a treat or toy that will make your absence more manageable.

Should I consider adopting one of the recommended breeds from a shelter, and what are the advantages of doing so?

Adoption gives a dog another chance at a happy life. By adopting a dog, you are saving them from an uncertain future, so it is definitely something to consider.

Shelters also have a diverse range of breeds, so there’s a good chance you will find many options from your list. The cost for dogs from adoption shelters is also typically lower compared to purchasing from a breeder. Plus, when you adopt from a shelter, you support the organizations that are working on rescuing and caring for animals. By contributing, you help promote animal welfare.

Are there specific ways to ensure a smooth transition for my dog during major life changes, such as a career switch or relocation?

A few things that will help foster a smooth transition include:

  • Introducing the change gradually
  • Maintaining a consistent routine
  • Having familiar items around
  • Reintroducing and reinforcing training

Planning a vacation can be an exciting and stressful time, especially if you have a pet. At Pet Palace, we understand that choosing a caregiver for your dog is a difficult task – one that we can help with. There are numerous benefits of dog boarding with Pet Palace, both for you, and for your dog.

Choosing to Board Your Dog

As you start vacation planning, it’s likely you’ll consider various questions related to what to do with your dog while you’re away. Could you have a friend check on them or a family member keep them? Will they be comfortable there? Will they get along with the other pets or children in those scenarios? Is there an option for care that puts your mind at ease and one that prioritizes your dog’s safety and happiness while you’re away?

At Pet Palace, we have years of experience in pet care, our staff are thoroughly trained, and our pet resort is equipped with everything we need to keep your pets safe, happy, and engaged while you’re gone. With us, the benefits of dog boarding are plentiful. Plus, they will simplify your trip planning and allow you relax knowing that your dog is in good hands while you’re on vacation.

Dog Boarding Benefits: Nutrition, Safety and Active Engagement

We prioritize your dog’s well-being in a number of ways, with nutrition, safety, and activity being primary focuses.

Nutrition and Safety

  • We inquire about your pet’s food allergies and feeding rituals before their stay with us. We want to make sure that we mirror their home eating habits as closely as possible so that we don’t disrupt the routine that they’re used to. Leaving your pet to be checked on by a friend can put them at risk of running out of food or water, especially if it’s inadvertently spilled by your dog.
  • Our staff will always ensure that your dog has water available and is fed on time and in a routine. If preferred, we allow you to bring dog food from home in pre-measured baggies. Our ultimate goal is to keep your pet as comfortable and happy as possible without disrupting their regular routine and eating habits.
  • In addition to making sure we are cautious about your pet’s allergies and mindful of their feeding schedule, if your dog requires care while boarding with us, we’ll be sure to take your dog to their regular vet. We understand the importance of your pet being seen by their regular provider in an emergency situation.

Active Engagement

  • We make sure that your dog receives plenty of time outside. Just as outside time is refreshing, and good for us as humans, we know that it’s good for your pet, too. One of the many benefits of dog boarding is that your pet will get ample time outside for play and potty breaks.
  • Additionally, when your pet stays with us at Pet Palace, they’ll receive personal attention from our staff. We’ll make sure we know how your dog interacts with other dogs, what activities they love, and which activities to avoid.

A Vacation for Your Dog, Too

Leaving your pet behind while you’re on vacation doesn’t have to be sad or stressful, as it can be a vacation for your dog, too! One of our favorite benefits of dog boarding is that you can choose from one of our standard dog villas or reserve the royal dog boarding suite for your fur baby. Our spacious villas set us apart from other boarding kennels. We make sure that your dog has plenty of room whether they’re napping, relaxing, or playing.

Our standard dog villas are each equipped with:

  • Heating
  • Air conditioning
  • Quality bedding
  • Daily housekeeping

Our cozy villas make saying goodbye a little easier. You can vacation in peace knowing that your dog is safe, comfortable, and happy. Plus, with our pet cams, you don’t have to fight the urge to check in. Our boarding webcams provide you with easy access to check in on your best friend while you’re away.

But, before you do, you’ll definitely want to learn how you can keep your dog safe while you’re out and about.

Keep reading to learn what temperatures require extra caution, the warning signs of a heatstroke, and our top tips for exercising your dog outdoors.

So, How Hot Is TOO Hot for a Dog Anyway?

Most dogs are safe outdoors up to about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. However, each dog is different, and some dogs just aren’t well-suited to high temperatures.

In particular, you want to be especially careful outdoors if your dog meets any of the following criteria:

  • Less than 6 months old
  • Elderly
  • Short-nosed (i.e. pugs, Boston terriers, bulldogs)
  • Long-haired
  • Overweight
  • Sick

You’ll also want to avoid leaving your dog in a parked car during the warm summer months—even with the car running and the AC on.

Temperatures can rise very quickly in parked vehicles, causing dogs to experience irreversible organ damage and even death.

What Are the Warning Signs My Dog May Be Having a Heatstroke?

Heatstroke occurs when a dog’s body temperature rises too much in response to hot outdoor temperatures. This serious condition can be deadly and requires immediate attention, should you notice your dog experiencing any of the following heatstroke symptoms:

  • Vigorous panting
  • Dizziness or disorientation
  • Dark red gums
  • Thick saliva
  • Lying down, and unwilling or unable to get up
  • Collapse
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Tacky or dry mucous membranes, particularly around the gums
  • Higher rectal temperature (over 104 degrees requires action, over 105 degrees constitutes an emergency)

If your dog is displaying any of these signs, move him to a cool area, give him access to plenty of cold water, and contact your vet. If multiple symptoms are present, take your dog to the vet immediately for emergency care.

What Tips Do You Have for Exercising My Dog Outdoors?

There are a few things you can do to keep your dog healthy and active during the warm summer months:

  • Workout Early or Late – Opt to walk your dogs outdoors either early in the AM or late at night when temperatures are cooler.
  • Take Breaks – Aim for a couple shorter trips outside throughout the day, rather than one longer session.
  • Offer Water – Make sure your dog has access to drinking water outdoors, at least once every 15 minutes.
  • Use Doggy Booties – If it’s too hot for you to be barefoot outdoors, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. In that case, try taking your dog outside with doggy booties on.

What’s Your Best Tip for Keeping My Dog Cool and Content This Summer?

Our doggy day care is the ideal way to keep your dog healthy and happy this summer. While here, your dog will get regular exercise, playtime in a controlled environment, and even an air-conditioned villa for the ultimate in canine comfort!
